I have not tasted this bottling since the 2015 vintage and was very happy to receive a sample of the fine 2022 version. Readers may recall that this is made from a parcel of vines that are now more than eighty years of age, with the wine fermented with native yeasts and raised in cement vats. The 2022 le Griottier delivers an excellent and sappy nose of red and black cherries, pomegranate, gamebird, a fine base of granitic soil, distant bonfire and a lovely floral note redolent of peonies. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a sappy core of fruit, lovely soil undertow, fine-grained, moderate tannins and a long, beautifully balanced finish. This is first class Morgon! (Drink between 2024-2055)

This is a fresh and pretty Morgon. Silky layers of raspberries, cherry blossoms, peaches and oranges are wrapped up in soft tannins. Drink now.

Vibrant violets, redcurrants and kirsch aromas. Light and youthful, with bright acidity, pure red fruit, elegant tannins, stony minerality and a long, lively, well-balanced finish.

More about savory underpinnings than juicy fruit, with shaved graphite and dusty earth notes revealing pomegranate and smoky sandalwood elements. Well-integrated, with a nice texture and structure to support the finish, which shows some persistence. Drink now through 2028.
