Quinta do Mouro is a small estate at the gates of Estremoz in Alentejo, acquired in 1979 by Miguel Louro — then 26 years old — who planted the first vines in 1989 after an initial foray into livestock. The property, which had belonged to the Zagalo family for centuries and includes an 18th-century palatial house, is notably small for Alentejo, a region dominated by vast herdade estates. The Gold Label is the estate's flagship limited-production red, a blend of Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, Cabernet Sauvignon, Touriga Nacional, and Trincadeira, considered one of Portugal's greatest red wines.
