1978 Serafino Rivella "Montestefano" Barbaresco
Notes
Cantina Serafino Rivella is a tiny cult producer in Barbaresco producing approximately 1,000 cases per year exclusively from the historic Montestefano cru. The estate's Montestefano vineyard was planted in 1963 by Teobaldo Rivella's father, who produced the first vintage in 1967 and farmed organically from the beginning. The Montestefano cru is distinguished by a solid meter of active limestone at the surface over clay and tufo beneath, with wines vinified in the Barolo tradition — three to four week macerations and 30 to 40 months aging in large botti — and released a year later than neighboring producers.
