1999 Serafino Rivella "Montestefano" Barbaresco
Notes
Cantina Serafino Rivella is a tiny cult producer in Barbaresco run entirely by Teobaldo Rivella and his wife Maria, producing approximately 1,000 cases per year exclusively from the historic Montestefano cru in Barbaresco itself. The estate's Montestefano vineyard was planted in 1963 by Teobaldo's father, with the first vintage produced in 1967, and has been farmed organically since the beginning. The Montestefano cru is distinguished by a solid meter of active limestone at the surface over clay and tufo beneath, and Rivella vinifies in the Barolo tradition with three to four week macerations and 30 to 40 months aging in large botti, releasing wines a year later than his neighbors.
