Niepoort is a six-generation Dutch-Portuguese family firm founded in Vila Nova de Gaia in 1842, transformed from a traditional Port shipper into one of the Douro's most respected producers of still wine when fifth-generation Dirk Niepoort joined the business in 1987 and began acquiring estate vineyards. Coche is Niepoort's most exclusive white wine, sourced from old vines over 70 years of age on mica-schist soils at 600 to 700 metres elevation on the right bank of the Douro, with the name and ambition of the wine inspired by Burgundy's legendary Domaine Coche-Dury. Fruit is fermented in French oak and aged 12 months on lees without bâtonnage or racking from a blend of Rabigato, Códega do Larinho, Arinto, and other indigenous white varieties.
