2008 Lilbert-Fils Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Cramant Brut Champagne

Review Date: 04/2018Chardonnay from two plots in Cramant: Les Buissons and Moyens. A thrilling release of this wine: finely detailed Chardonnay with a machete like assault of acidity on the palate. One can feel the lurking density underneath the toasty lemon fruit. Sizzling with youthful energy, try and lose these in you cellar for another five years or so to be rewarded with some tertiary uplift. I hope Bertrand has kept some bottles on lees!

Pale gold. Pungent pear skin, beeswax and floral aromas show excellent clarity, with a bright mineral overtone adding vivacity. Fleshy and seamless on the palate, offering energetic orchard and citrus fruit flavors and a chalky nuance that gains strength on the back half. The long, incisive finish delivers a strong jolt of minerality, leaving lemon zest and floral notes behind. Disgorged in September, 2014; Lot no. 14-02-00x. (JR)

An elegant and ultra-pure nose features very subtle yeast hints that add breadth to the citrus, green apple and soft floral nuances. There is good vibrancy to the crisp, cool and restrained flavors where the supporting mousse is very much in keeping with the overall character of the wine, which is to say very fine, all wrapped in a clean and moderately dry finale.
