Simply, a beautiful Moulin-à-Vent. Fragrant aromas of blackberry, red raspberry, black tea, field-grass fronds, black cherry and crushed violet blossom perfume the nose. On the palate, supple tannins rest in the background and elevate the fruit, imparting delicate, complex flavors that will give you pause and elicit moments of appreciation. *Editors' Choice* (RS)

The 2021 Moulin-à-Vent Champ de Cour is showing nicely, revealing succulent but fresh flavors of bramble fruits, plums, crushed petals, beetroot and baking spices. With an inviting attack, the medium to full-bodied wine unfolds a layered mid-palate escorted by smooth structuring tannins and bright acidity. The wine flows leisurely in the mouth, ending on a high with a mouth-watering, crisp finish. This is well-balanced and suave, a top-tier Champ de Cour. (KW)

A lean, graphite-driven cuvée, showing flavors of baked cherry, blue fruit and dusty violets. Shows good energy throughout, with an open feeling to its polished, gentle tannins and toasted apple wood note. Earth, herb and citrus zest elements play out on the finish. (KB)

Notes

Château du Moulin-à-Vent traces its origins to 1732, when the estate—then known as Château des Thorins—anchored the historic heart of the Moulin-à-Vent cru. Its long lineage includes the visionary Philiberte Pommier, whose 19th-century stewardship culminated in a gold medal at the 1862 Universal Exhibition, and a major transition in 1911 when Julien Damoy acquired the property and expanded its reputation. The modern era began in 2009 with the Parinet family, who restored the domaine after a difficult period for Beaujolais. Today the estate farms 30 hectares across top sites such as Champ de Cour, La Rochelle, Les Vérillats, Les Thorins, and Clos de Londres, emphasizing organic conversion, massale selection, and parcel-specific vinification. Production centers on Gamay grown on granite-based soils shaped by the region’s defining winds, with élevage in the château’s historic cellars.
