2018 Bernard Baudry "Les Grezeaux" Chinon (1.5L)

Review Date: 10/2020As I have remarked in other tasting notes, the élevage for this cuvée, sourced from Bernard Baudry’s first-ever vineyard purchase, is entirely in cement cuve, with no barrel aging at all. This remains strongly marked by the vintage, with the intense expression seen in other 2018s, with dried red cherry and floral notes reminiscent of peony. The palate follows this with an elegantly silky texture, but also great substance and depth, the middle of the palate filled with rich, dark and polished fruits. I also get little notes of toast, liquorice and praline (remember there is no oak here), indicating this is a wine of incredible complexity along with its fine substance and depth. A remarkable result, surely one of the best examples of Les Grézeaux ever made.
