Review Date: 03/2018A powerful, explosive wine, the 2016 Syrah Kenefick Ranch captures the essence of this Calistoga site. Tobacco, leather, smoke, black cherry and plum are all pushed forward. Muscular and dense, with terrific staying power, the 2016 is incredibly distinctive, not to mention flat-out delicious. (AG)

Made up entirely of Syrah, the deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Syrah Kenefick Ranch Vineyard opens with tar, black soil and garrigue to begin, with a core of blackberries, star anise and cassis plus a waft of black pepper. Medium-bodied and plush, with a good amount of peppery black fruit, it finishes with an herbal lift. (LPB)
