2024 Von Schubert Maximin Grunhaus "Maximin" Riesling Mosel

Review Date: 11/2025The 2024 Maximin Grünhaus Schloss Riesling AP #2 is produced from a blend of fruit sourced from the estate’s three vineyards: the Abtsberg, the Herrenberg and the Bruderberg. The wine is made in a Trocken style and comes in at 11.5 percent octane in 2024, carrying 7.2 grams per liter of residual sugar and 7.1 grams of acidity. It is a touch tight and reductive from its closure when first opened, but with some coaxing offers up a lovely nose of apple, white cherry, salty minerality, a touch of wild yeasts, cress and a topnote of lime peel. On the palate the wine is fullish, complex and beautifully balanced, with a lovely core, excellent mineral undertow and good length and grip on the precise and complex finish. As I have said in the past, wines this good have no business being sealed under screwcaps. But, as it is screwcapped, one has to work around the reductive tendencies of the closure to get the wine to sing, but once it has had some air, it is a lovely drink. (Drink between 2024-2045)
