2022 La Rata Walla Walla Valley Red Blend
96
Vinous
Review Date: 10/2025The 2022 La Rata is remarkably pretty, mixing violets and lavender with citrus-tinged blackberries and nuances of incense. It displays amazing concentration while maintaining freshness throughout, with ripe wild berry fruits and a cascade of inner florals as crunchy mineral tones add contrast. Hints of blood orange and sage resonate, and a bump of residual acidity maintains energy through the long and gently tannic finale. Sadly, this is La Rata's final vintage. (EG)

The last vintage of this wine, with fruit from En Cerise Vineyard, Armida, and La Paciencia, the 2022 La Rata blends 56% Grenache, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Syrah, inspired by the wines of Clos Erasmus in Priorat. Supple and gravelly, the Cabernet and Grenache are co-fermented. Balanced and rounded, it offers layers of blackberry and cassis wrapped in fine-grained tannin, aged 21 months in neutral 100% French oak, which adds tension and length. (VB)

Juicy and savory, this blooms with crushed red berries, raspberry bush, spiced herbs and stones. Vibrant and fleshy on a medium- to full-bodied palate, it offers dusty tannins and lingers with a tense orange-peel character. 56% grenache, 39% cabernet sauvignon and 5% syrah. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

A vivacious red that's refined and detailed, with polished flavors of cherry and raspberry highlighted by fresh violet, savory meat and zesty cinnamon tones that speed along toward lively tannins. Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. (TF)
