2021 WeatherEye "Estate" Red Mountain Mourvèdre
97
Owen Bargreen
The 2021 Mourvèdre underwent 15% whole cluster fermentation. Stored in large format used French oak, this offers smoked meats and anise notes alongside black olives and rich dark fruits. This is really dense and delicious wine with plenty of nuance. Very herbal with loganberry, beef drippings and wild blackberry fruit flavors, alongside scorched earth, this is a gorgeous, generous effort that is drinking marvelously right now. Drink 2024-2036.

Int'l Wine Review
I always love the Mourvèdre from Weathereye year after year and I believe that Red Mountain produces the best fruit in the state of Washington for the variety. Boasting a deep blue-purple core with a neon purple rim in the glass, it starts off with gorgeous notes of blackberries, ground pink peppercorn, scorched earth, and cedary herbs, with just a touch of sweet allspice to keep things interesting. Grippy tannins, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and impressive acidity are well in balance. Highly recommended.

Wine Enthusiast
An aromatic combination of blackberries, violets and the earthy crunchiness of fallen oak leaves greets you with an enthusiastic hug. A blackberry-fruit flavor rich enough to make compote is joined by shortbread and a cup of black tea.

The 2021 Mourvedre Estate shows the spicy, savory, meaty style of the variety and is medium to full-bodied, with ripe, integrated tannins, beautiful purity, and classic notes of red and black fruits, iron, baking spices, and peppery herbs. This complex, layered, impressive Mourvèdre will need 3-4 years of bottle age and drink brilliantly over the following 10-15 years.
