2020 Modus Operandi "Bacigalupi Vineyard" Pinot Noir

Review Date: 10/2022Picked on 21 September, the 2020 Pinot Noir Bacigalupi Vineyard is medium ruby-purple colored. Alluring notes of raspberry pie, kirsch, and pomegranate slowly unfurl, giving way to notions of dark chocolate, violets, and spearmint. The full-bodied palate is rich and fragrant with smoked meats and spicy layers, framed by plush tannins, finishing long and spicy. I pick up the lightest hint of smokiness on this wine, but I wouldn't say it detracts unless you truly dislike this character. (LPB)

Notes
Modus Operandi Cellars is a small-production winery founded by Jason Moore, with a focus on site-driven wines sourced from some of California’s most respected vineyards. This Pinot Noir comes from the historic Bacigalupi Vineyard in Russian River Valley, where cool Pacific influence, fog-laden mornings, and Goldridge soils have long made the region one of California’s benchmark terroirs for the variety. Farmed with an emphasis on balance and crafted with a restrained hand in the cellar, the wine reflects the aromatic lift and finely textured structure that have defined Bacigalupi fruit for decades.
