Still a fair length of barrel elevage to come. Dense crimson colour, plenty of oak but a massive fruit weight to match. So different from Vaucrains, vastly more depth and energy though I still crave for the finesse of Vaucrains. This is more evidently immediately satisfying, and has the classic heart of this part of the Côte. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted Nov 2024.

Black currant, blackberry and sweet oak flavors mingle in this opulent, even flashy red. The oak is a bit too dominant at this stage; however, there’s depth and intense fruit underneath, and this will show better harmony in a year or two. Offers saturated fruit and terrific length. Best from 2030 through 2050.

Broad shouldered with rippling muscles of fruit, this is a big wine made for long cellaring. The 60-year-old vines in this 0.7 ha parcel deliver dense red berry fruits with hints of smoked tea, pencil lead and campfire embers. Give this upwards of a decade.

The 2023 les St. Georges from Gregory Gouges this year is stunning. The wine is beautifully expressive already on the nose, offering up scents of sweet dark berries, cassis, gentle spice tones, a very complex foundation of soil, a touch of graphite, gamebird, peonies, woodsmoke and cedar. On the palate the wine is pure, precise, full-bodied and sappy at the core, with lovely balance, fine-grained tannins and a very long, vibrant and soil-driven finish. Great juice from a great vineyard. (Drink between 2040-2090)

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "‘For the centenary of the domaine in 2019 we used the old label of the domaine and now we have decided to keep it.’ Bottled yesterday… The most complex and perfumed but not the largest or deepest nose today – the perfume growing in the glass though!! Hmm, melting flavour – a texture of velour, the width hyper-impressive. Not the fluid style of the Vaucrains today – a more cushioned, textural style that wraps the palate in a small delicious cushion – the finish resting in a more dark and mineral style. Long, long…"(01/2025)
