A restrained lemony profile for this Etna, full of broom flowers and a rich core of stone fruit. Vibrant palate with zesty acidity and a weighty, silky texture. Long, flowery finish. Drink now. (AF)

Vinous

Review Date: 08/2024
Wildly fresh and focused, the 2023 Etna Bianco wafts up with a lovely blend of peach sorbet, mint leaf and white smoke. This is both juicy and refined, with crisp orchard fruits and hints of candied citrus that enliven the palate. Crisp minerality combines with lime and nectarine; the 2023 finishes long and leaves the mouth watering. (EG)

Decanter

Review Date: 09/2024
Etna's north slope, or ‘versante nord’ is better known for its reds, but there are some really impressive Carricantes being made there too. This example from Davide Rosso is whole-bunch pressed then vinified and aged in steel. It has a distinct richness of lees which gives it a soft and round feel in the mouth, while the fresh acidity adds tension and energy. Spicy notes mingle with pineapple, tangerine, peach and white flowers. (JB)

Notes

The 2023 Giovanni Rosso Etna Bianco is a striking, 100% Carricante produced from Davide Rosso's Montedolce estate on the northern slopes of Mount Etna. Whole-bunch pressed and raised entirely in stainless steel and cement with five months on the fine lees, this vintage beautifully bridges the producer's Piedmontese precision with intense volcanic energy. In the glass, it shows a pale straw yellow color. The nose is remarkably fresh and focused, opening with aromas of yellow citrus peel, white peach, and broom flowers, layered with white smoke and wild mint leaf. On the palate, the wine delivers a brilliant combination of juicy orchard fruit and a rich, rounded texture from the lees, effortlessly reined in by a piercing, vertical acidity. It finishes remarkably long, mouth-watering, and intensely salty, leaving a lasting imprint of smoky flint and lime zest.
