Review Date: 03/1998Deep red-ruby, the darkest of these '95s. Knockout aromas of black raspberry, chocolate, espresso and exotic spices. Incredible inner-mouth mineral and berry flavors. Spicy, delineated and truly palate-staining. Has a structure that reminded me of Cabernet Sauvignon. Explosive finish, with tannins that coat the palate, teeth, furniture . . Showing much better than the '93 did at the same stage. (ST)

One of the greatest wines of the vintage, Vogue's Musigny Vieilles Vignes, reminded me of Chateau Margaux at its best: an iron fist in a velvet glove. How anything can be this massive, powerful, and robust and yet be strikingly elegant and refined. Possessing a dark ruby color and an amazingly spicy, floral (roses) and black fruit-filled nose, this stupendous Burgundy has a thick, almost viscous, velvety texture, with copious quantities of fat, chewy, red berries. Surprisingly, the fruit almost tastes stewed yet is perfectly and clearly delineated. Complex, intensely deep and buttressed with huge but ripe tannins...(PR)

I am not sure if it was our bottle, or typical of the wine, but the 1995 Domaine Comte de Vogüé Musigny was showing a bit more advanced aromatics than the Bonnes-Mares at our 1995 tasting, with more autumnal elements, but still plenty of depth and complexity. The bouquet offers up a mélange of cherries, pomegranate, woodsmoke, gamebirds, a touch of nutskin, fine soil nuances and cedary wood. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and wide open today, with a good core, suave, modest tannins and very good length and grip on the mature finish. There is not quite the same mid-palate flesh of the 1995 Bonnes-Mares from the domaine, but this too is a very strong example of the vintage. 93+

Moderate bricking though with a still ruby core. The '95 VV has matured into a pretty if not exceptional vintage for this stored wine with its ever-so-slightly herbaceous-inflected aromas of orange peel, spice, secondary fruit and earth. The medium weight and lightly mineral-inflected flavors are remarkably supple yet offer good density and richness with ever-so-mildly edgy supporting tannins on the otherwise delicious, complex and reasonably well-balanced finish though with air, the edginess becomes more apparent.
