2019 Black Stallion "Bucephalus" Napa Valley Red Blend
94
Wine Advocate
Review Date: 03/2023A blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Malbec, 10% Merlot, 5% Syrah and 2% Petit Verdot, aged in 85% new French oak (if I've done my math correctly), the 2019 Bucephalus Red Wine is intense, with cedary nuances accenting dark cherries, ripe plums, dark loam and Madagascar vanilla. It's full-bodied and velvety, with a reasonably concentrated and lengthy finish. (JC)

Ripe black plums, blackcurrants, sweet tobacco, olives and chocolate orange on the nose. Full-bodied with firm, ripe tannins and a plush texture. Rich and flavorful with a firm finish.

The 2019 Bucephalus is Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated yet includes 10% each Malbec and Merlot as well as smaller amounts of Syrah and Petit Verdot. Its dense purple hue is followed by a terrific array of darker currants, blackberries, spicy oak, graphite, and cocoa powder. With full-bodied richness, a layered, concentrated mouthfeel, and ripe tannins, it's going to have 15-20 years of overall longevity.
