From the Rocks AVA in Washington and made by Nigel Kinsman (I was able to taste it during my visit with Nigel), the 2023 Syrah boasts a dense plum hue and offers smoky red and black fruits, toasted nuts, roasted meats, and spicy nuances. Made from 100% Syrah aged 20 months in 25% new French oak, it's full-bodied with a plush, concentrated mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's not as exuberant as the 2022 yet has a meaty, complex, nuanced style that will evolve beautifully. (JD)

The 2023 Syrah is a potent, inky wine. Red/purplish fruit, rose petal, lavender and spice race across the palate. The 20% stems are nearly buried by the wine's sheer fruit intensity. Floral overtones brighten the long, sustained finish. Today, the 2023 is a bit closed in on itself, but it's a sumptuous, heady red with a great future ahead of it. (AG)

Notes

Kinsman Eades sources its “Aberro” Syrah from Le Mani Vineyard, a site defined by rocky, well-drained soils and a warm, sun-exposed setting tempered by cooling evening influences. These conditions promote even ripening while preserving structure and aromatic lift. The result is a wine that reflects this terroir with balance, depth, and a clear sense of place.
