2011 Flowers "Sea View Ridge, Block 19" Sonoma Coast Pinot Meunier

Review Date: 02/2014Well, I guess there is always something new under the sun. I am quite sure the estate's 2011 Pinot Meunier Sea View Ridge Block 19 is the first still Meunier I have ever had in California. Of course, Meunier is one of the main grapes used in making Champagne, where it is often employed to give wines mid-palate. Interestingly, in 2011 that is exactly what Mother Nature took from many wines, so here, the Meunier is simply gorgeous. Dark red cherries, flowers and sweet spices all flesh out in the glass. Pliant and deeply resonant, the 2011 Pinot Meunier is simply dazzling. What a gorgeous wine this is. (AG)

Notes
Josh Reynolds for Vinous: "Bright ruby-red. Spice- and mineral-accented redcurrant and cherry aromas are complicated by notes of rooty sassafras and rose oil, with a subtle vanilla quality in the background, Juicy and precise, offering bitter cherry and red berry flavors that become sweeter with air. Fleshes out on the finish, which features supple tannins and lingering smoke and cola notes. Shows good depth and roundness for a cool vintage." (5/2014)
