The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Melanson is bright, aromatic and very nicely lifted, not to mention a terrific, example of the vintage and this Pritchard Hill site. Floral notes and red berry fruit are nicely pushed forward. I very much admire both the refinement and energy that pulse through the 2016. (AG)

Dark fruit and jazzy, toasty oak join forces to deliver a tight, focused mix of dark berry, gravel, cedar and road tar flavors. A potent youngster, best-served by short-term cellaring. (JL)

Notes

Dakota Shy began in 2008 when Todd Newman started producing small lots of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon with winemaker Tom Garrett. The partners built the winery on the lower slopes of Pritchard Hill after acquiring the site in 2014 and completing construction in 2017. The team now works with more than a dozen vineyard sources across Napa Valley, including sites in St. Helena, Rutherford, Oakville, Calistoga, Howell Mountain, Mount Veeder, and Atlas Peak. Production focuses on Cabernet Sauvignon made in small fermenters with detailed lot selection.
