The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Atlas is a potent, brooding wine that shows all the pedigree of this hillside site. A blast of dark plum, leather, grilled herbs, menthol, graphite and scorched earth runs through this potent Calistoga Cabernet. Sadly, this is the last vintage of Atlas from Heimark Vineyard. (AG)

This is packed, featuring waves of boysenberry, blackberry and plum compote flavors enlivened with roasted apple and anise notes. There's also a dark earth note running steadily underneath, plus a curl of alder smoke enhancing the rich finish. (JM)

Notes

Dakota Shy began in 2008 when Todd Newman started producing small lots of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon with winemaker Tom Garrett. The partners built the winery on the lower slopes of Pritchard Hill after acquiring the site in 2014 and completing construction in 2017. The team now works with more than a dozen vineyard sources across Napa Valley, including sites in St. Helena, Rutherford, Oakville, Calistoga, Howell Mountain, Mount Veeder, and Atlas Peak. Production focuses on Cabernet Sauvignon made in small fermenters with detailed lot selection.
