Happily, the 2023 Riesling “Réserve” from Maison Trimbach is bottled un under a natural cork. The wine comes in at an even thirteen percent octane in this classic vintage and delivers a refined bouquet of apple, lemon, a touch of white peach, lovely, chalky soil tones, elder flowers and a touch of raw almond in the upper register. On the palate the wine is vibrant, full-bodied and tightly-knit, with an excellent core of fruit, fine soil signature and grip, lovely acids and a long, nascently complex and seamlessly balanced finish. This is more youthfully reticent than the regular bottling of 2023 Riesling, but also inherently more elegant and complex. All it needs is a bit of cellaring time to blossom fully. It is one of the finest young vintages of Riesling “Réserve” I have tasted from the Trimbach family. 2029-2055.
