In the early 1970s, Jerry Lohr’s plantings in Monterey’s Arroyo Seco established the foundation for the winery’s long expansion across the Central Coast. He developed 280 acres near Greenfield in 1972–73, forming the core of J. Lohr’s cool-climate program. The family later moved into Paso Robles beginning in 1986 and added a dedicated red-wine facility in 1988. J. Lohr now farms more than 4,000 acres across Monterey, Paso Robles, and St. Helena. The operation remains family run, with Steve, Cynthia, and Lawrence Lohr overseeing viticulture, winemaking, and brand management.
