Gibbston Valley started in the early 1980s when Alan Brady planted the Home Block, which became Central Otago’s first commercial vineyard in 1983. He followed with the region’s first commercial release in 1987 and officially launched Gibbston Valley Wines in 1990. Growth came through steady, hands-on winemaking and the addition of a schist cave in 1995 for barrel aging. Today the estate farms sites in Gibbston and Bendigo and focuses on cool-climate varieties, producing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Riesling.
