Vincent Guillemot has used 70% whole bunch fermentation in 2017 for structure. Good density, rich purple, the nose takes a bit of teasing out, this has an extra weight, a little bit of black fruit but predominantly dark raspberry, with plenty of layers waiting to be teased out. Here come the ripe cherries now. Easy and graceful.

The 2017 Corton Le Rognet et Corton Grand Cru is very promising, revealing a complex bouquet of strawberries, plums, mossy soil and burnt orange rind, followed by a medium to full-bodied, attractively layered and concentrated wine for the vintage, with juicy acids and a light framing of chewy tannins. It should develop well in bottle and is the only wine in the cellar that might rival the Serpentières. (WK)

Notes

Domaine Pierre Guillemot draws from parcels on the hill of Corton, including Le Rognet et Corton. These elevated sites, with limestone and marl soils and varied exposures, yield wines of structure and depth. The result is a Corton that reflects its terroir with power, balance, and a clear sense of place.
