A subtle if still easily perceptible application of wood sets off elegant red berry fruit, spice and discreet floral wisps. There is good freshness and verve to the utterly delicious and finer middle weight flavors that possess a sleek mouthfeel, all wrapped in a bitter cherry-inflected finale. Once again, this could use better depth so at least a few years of keeping are recommended.

Notes

Domaine Gérard Raphet is a traditional family estate in Morey-St-Denis known for producing classically styled Burgundy with an emphasis on old vines, whole-cluster fermentation, and minimal intervention in the cellar. The premier cru vineyard “Les Combottes,” located in Gevrey-Chambertin between several grand cru sites, is prized for its limestone-rich soils and sheltered position that consistently yield wines of both power and finesse. Raphet’s old-school approach highlights the vineyard’s earthy minerality, floral lift, and layered dark-fruited character, capturing the savory complexity that defines traditional Côte de Nuits Pinot Noir.
