Review Date: 10/2007

Rugged and kind of sweet, with candied cherry, raspberry and mint julep flavors, this Zin has dusty, briary tannins and a mouth-watering spiciness that calls for steaks and chops.

Notes

Alexander Valley Vineyards began when Harry and Maggie Wetzel purchased the historic Cyrus Alexander homestead in 1962, planting their first vines the following year. The family established the bonded winery in 1975 under Hank and Linda Wetzel, marking the first official vintage and setting the estate’s long-term direction as a family-run operation. The property has since expanded into more than 700 acres along both sides of the Russian River, matching specific varieties and microclimates. Production centers on estate Cabernet Sauvignon, including the CYRUS blend, supported by a broad program shaped since 1998 by winemaker Kevin Hall, who emphasizes balanced, site-driven wines.
