Review Date: 06/2012The reserved and utterly stunning 2010 Cras offers up a beautiful mélange of sappy red and black cherries, plums, pomegranate, raw cocoa, brilliant minerality, smoke, currant leaf and just a touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very, very pure on the attack, with the sappy core ensconced in a fairly reserved format. The tannins are substantial, but ripe and very well-integrated into the wine, with bright, tangy acids and simply stunning length and grip on the vibrant and youthful finish. A great, great wine in the making.

A dramatic, densely fruited and polished nose speaks of spiced purple fruit and floral aromas, particularly violets. The strikingly well-detailed, intense and mineral-driven flavors are supported by seemingly buckets of dry extract as well as refined and sophisticated tannins that contribute to this wine's perfect sense of harmony on the explosive finish. Wow, this is a seriously impressive effort that should also age extremely well though note that significant patience will be required. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding*

Good bright, full red. Very closed yet delicate nose offers scents of black cherry, licorice, fresh herbs and minerals. Soil-driven, saline and sweet, with powerful minerality accentuating the wine's superb concentration. Wonderfully tactile yet light on its feet, this taut, vibrant wine saturates the entire mouth and stains the front teeth. As with Barthod's other 2010s, the tannins are extremely refined. Barthod notes that the 1999 version of this wine is still young, and she believes that this 2010 will take even longer to reach full maturity. (ST) 94+

Nothing really stands out in the 2010 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras. The wine is simply beautiful from start to finish. There is more than enough depth and density to stand up to the firm tannins that are typical of this site. Dark red cherries, spices, menthol and new oak fill out the virtually seamless finish. Once again, the wine’s balance and overall sense of proportion are both first-rate. (AG)
