2022 North Valley "Compass" Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

2022 North Valley "Compass" Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

Review Date: 04/2026

Willamette Valley Pinot Noir for only $19.95? Well, yes and no. Yes, it's $19.95 at K&L, but it's higher everywhere else - if you can find it. The 2022 North Valley Compass is a blend from five biodynamically farmed vineyards in the Willamette Valley and is pure organic Oregon Pinot Noir that punches way above its price point. Aged for ten months if French oak, 25% new, the Compass has notes of black tea, blackberry, dark strawberry, cranberry, pomegranate, rose petals, and baking spices

Notes

North Valley Vineyards is a tightly run Willamette Valley project built on deep roots in Oregon’s modern winemaking scene. Originally formed as a collaboration between Tony and Michelle Soter and winemaker James Cahill, the label combined serious vineyard access with decades of experience. Today, Cahill leads the project independently, maintaining long-standing grower relationships alongside two estate sites. The focus is northern Willamette Valley fruit, with Pinot Noir at the core and Chardonnay close behind. Vineyard sources span Dundee Hills, Ribbon Ridge, and Yamhill-Carlton, giving the wines a clear regional identity. Farming emphasizes sustainability through LIVE and Salmon Safe certification. The wines show balance, clarity, and restraint, avoiding heavy extraction or overt winemaking influence.
