2023 Littorai "B.A. Thieriot Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
96
Decanter
Review Date: 03/2025There’s a sense of readiness in the 2023 vintage of the B.A. Thieriot Chardonnay. Salty, perfumed, citrusy, and round, with a fleshy fullness that makes it one of the more approachable wines in the lineup. Notes of juicy, sweet apples and lemon tartlets fill out the mid-palate while the high acidity weaves through seamlessly, keeping everything lifted and layered. It’s a wine that feels confident, and is showing beautifully now. (ACQ)

A bright straw/silver color, the 2023 Chardonnay B.A. Thieriot Vineyard is refined and pure, with notes of lemon candies, salted pineapple, white peach, citrus blossoms, and powdery perfume. Medium-bodied, it has a refreshing feel throughout and is weightless while retaining an excellent core of concentration. I love the Sonoma Coast wines from the 2023 vintage a lot, and these are definitely standouts from the region at large. (AF)

The 2023 Chardonnay B.A. Thieriot Vineyard has detailed, continually blossoming aromas of yellow apple, lemon blossom, pie spice, toasted meringue and honey. The medium-bodied palate pairs concentrated, perfumed, peachy flavors with vibrant, shimmery acidity, and it has a very long, layered finish. 293 cases were made. (EB)

Littorai has a long-term lease on the B.A. Thieriot Vineyard and has farmed this vineyard themselves for more than a decade. The vines were planted in 1991 and 1994 and the vineyard is farmed biodynamically, though not certified. The vineyard sits at nine hundred feet above sea level, but receives some protection from both cool ocean air and fog from a higher ridge to its north. The 2023 Thieriot Chardonnay is outstanding, coming in at an even thirteen percent octane and revealing a bright and complex aromatic constellation of fresh apricot, nectarine, a complex base of Goldridge soil, orange blossoms, honeysuckle and a gentle framing of oak. On the palate the wine is crisp, full-bodied, precise and nascently complex, with beautiful depth of fruit at the core, a fine foundation of minerality, zesty acids and superb balance and grip on the long, vibrant and impeccably balanced finish. This is a great bottle of chardonnay in the making, but, though it is already very tasty, it is still quite youthful and more complexity will emerge if the wine is given some hibernation time in a cool corner of the cellar.
