Working with winemaker Erica Stancliff, this estate-grown wine shows a savory entry of black tea, forest floor and cardamom, earthy and complex at its core. A weighty heft of oak and tannin are balanced by crisp acidity that lifts the notes of pomegranate and blackberry. (VB)

I love Pfendler’s Pinot. Their 2019 Pinot Noir Petaluma Gap has a richer, medium-bodied, nicely concentrated style that carries lots of mulled red and black cherry as well as blackberry-like fruit supported by subtle foresty, spicy, and earthy nuances. Ripe and expansive, it has a solid, weightless texture, terrific overall balance, and nicely integrated tannins. It’s a charming, pleasure-bent Pinot.

Notes

Pfendler’s Pinot Noir is sourced from estate vineyards in the Petaluma Gap, where strong coastal winds and fog from San Pablo Bay define a long, cool growing season. The site’s well-drained soils and exposed conditions yield fruit with natural structure and preserved acidity. The result is a wine that reflects this maritime terroir with balance, precision, and a clear sense of place.
