2015 Elvio Tintero Barbaresco

2015 Elvio Tintero Barbaresco

Notes

Elvio Tintero’s story begins in 1900, when French-born Pierre “Pietrin” Tintero arrived in Piedmont and joined the small estate of widow Rosina Cortese, eventually marrying her and establishing the family’s winemaking roots. Their early work centered on Dolcetto, but the estate expanded under their sons Giovanni and Carlo, who planted more Moscato after WWII to supply major houses like Cinzano and Martini. The modern identity of the winery took shape in the 1980s, when Carlo’s son Elvio Tintero began experimenting with frizzante production, harnessing Moscato’s natural affinity for the steep, sunny slopes of Mango—particularly the Sorì Gramella vineyard, now the heart of the estate. His work broadened both vineyard holdings and technical expertise, helping elevate Moscato d’Asti as DOC and later DOCG. Today, the estate farms roughly 30 hectares—20 of them Moscato—on clay-limestone soils, producing fresh, approachable wines that emphasize clarity, lift, and terroir expression. Elvio has passed daily operations to his son Marco and daughter-in-law Cinzia, though he remains involved as the family continues its sustainable farming and tradition-driven production.
