1948 Palacio de Arganza Bierzo

Notes

Palacio de Arganza traces its modern winemaking identity to 1964, when the historic 18th-century palace in Villafranca del Bierzo was acquired and converted into the home of the bodega. Through the 1970s and 1980s, the estate became an early exporter of Bierzo wines, helping elevate the region internationally. In the 1990s, the winery expanded operations to Cuba, pioneering vineyard and wine development there. A major leap came in 2000 with the construction of the vast Señorío de Peñalba facility in Toral de los Vados, featuring large-capacity tanks and extensive barrel storage, enabling production up to 34 million liters annually. Today, the estate works with century-old low-yield vineyards and ages wines 3–10 months in French and American oak. The 1948 vintage is part of the estate’s heritage, even though the bodega itself was not yet formally established.
