2008 Casa E. di Mirafiore "Lazzarito" Barolo (1.5L)

Review Date: 06/2013The 2008 Barolo Lazzarito represents some of the estate’s best fruit in Serralunga d’Alba. The wine delivers a dark and brooding personality with dark berry aromas, cassis, licorice, tar, cola and enormous complexity throughout. The wine shows a stunning evolution in the glass. It also has the inherent qualities for longer aging. The structure and the acidity show firmness and bright crispness respectively. (ML)

Reticent nose, gradually revealing some dense cherry fruit. Broad and suave, with ample concentration of fruit and fine-grained tannins; a harmonious style that should develop well. (Panelt Tasting)

Dark plums, black cherries, smoke, menthol, licorice and tar blossom on the 2008 Barolo Lazzarito. There is more than enough fruit to fill out the wine's broad shoulders nicely. Some slightly rough edges remain in a Barolo that is mostly about power, but there is also an excellent sense of harmony. Sage, rosemary, new leather and game flow through the finish. Winemaker Danilo Drocco gave the 2008 40-50 days on the skins and aged the wine in cask, with minimal rackings throughout elevage. (AG)
