All the way back in 2011, when I wrote my feature on Château Beychevelle, I noted how beautifully this wine was drinking then and how much future it still has ahead of it. Thirteen years later, the wine continues to cruise along as if time will never have any effect on it. The bouquet is simply gorgeous, wafting from the glass in a refined and almost exotic blend of red and black cherries, mulberries, menthol, cigar wrapper, dark soil tones, nutskin, incipient notes of chipotles and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and shows off excellent mid-palate depth, with fine soil undertow and grip., melting tannins, tangy acids and impeccable balance on the long, complex and very refined finish. This is a great example of the very fine 1962 vintage!
