AGE Bodegas Unidas traces its roots to 1881, when Félix Azpilicueta founded Bodegas del Romeral in Fuenmayor, building what was then one of the region’s most modern wineries. Over the decades, the estate became known for long-aged, traditional Rioja wines, often matured for 20–30 years in American oak. In 1964, the Azpilicueta company partnered with Bodegas Cruz García Lafuenta to expand export capacity, and by 1967, a three-way merger with Melquíades Entrena formed AGE—an acronym of Azpilicueta, García, and Entrena.
