The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon is the only wine produced by Chappellet during the difficult and challenging 2020 vintage. The good news is that consumers can enjoy it shortly after release. In place of the estate’s typically inky dark fruit and polished mountain tannins, this is a more youthful expression, showing red and purple fruit with burly, robust tannins that carry a gritty edge, underscored by classic ironstone minerality. Totally enjoyable, it’s best served with a slight chill over the next three to four years. The finish reveals notes of chocolaty crushed stone and scorched earth. (JC)
