Reviewed January 2026Pronounced aromas of peach and passionfruit on the initial attack of Alvina Pernot's Chalumeaux lead into a lovely, creamy, supple texture and a lingering finish. The finesse and elegance of this wine in the 2024 vintage are astounding. Alvina's husband, Philippe Abadie, explains that the old vines (planted in 1956) suffer in hot years because there is only 10cm of earth on top of the limestone, so a wet year such as 2024 suits them well.(CC)

Mid lemon yellow. A little reductive note and a stony character to the bouquet, further up the hillside so much less of the late picked character than the Clos de la Jacquelotte. Some lemony notes at the finish, medium length.

The 2024 Puligny-Montrachet Chalumaux 1er Cru has attractive "cool glade" scents reminiscent of Chablis, perhaps just a little aloof in the positive connotation of that word. The palate is fresh and saline, quite penetrating in terms of its acidity that lends plenty of tension and vitality. Perhaps not quite as persistent as Pernot's other Puligny cuvées but still a thoroughly enjoyable wine. (NM)
