The Piero Busso 2021 Barbaresco Mondino shows brilliant luminosity and a harmonious interplay of fruit tension, volume and finely matured tannins. This southwest-facing site on ancient Sant’Agata Fossili marls delivers a complete and confident expression, combining power with freshness in what the producer considers one of his most balanced vintages. Known historically as Bricco Mondino within the Balluri MGA, this wine reflects the Busso family’s deep attachment to this special site. (ML) 94+

The 2021 Barbaresco Mondino is a gorgeous, complex wine. This is one of the best editions of the Mondino I can remember tasting. The bouquet alone is so enticing. Wild cherry, spice, incense, lavender, mocha and sage lend notable aromatic presence. Pliant and fleshy, with gorgeous persistence, the Mondino is complex, balanced and an absolute joy to taste. Notes

The Piero Busso "Mondino" Barbaresco (sometimes referred to as Bricco Mondino or associated with the Borghese estate history) is the most approachable and fruit-forward entry in Busso's lineup of single-vineyard crus. Located in the Balluri MGA in Neive, the Mondino vineyard sits on sandy-clay limestone soils that lend the wine a softer, silkier texture compared to the more muscular Gallina or Albesani. On the nose, it is highly expressive and fragrant, offering a bouquet of red cherries, raspberries, and plums interwoven with delicate notes of rose petals, light licorice, and baking spices. The palate is medium-to-full bodied and elegant, balancing a succulent core of fruit with fine-grained, supple tannins and a vibrant acidity. Aged for approximately 18–24 months in large, neutral oak casks, it retains a remarkable "joie de vivre" and is designed to be enjoyed earlier than the estate's more structured Riservas. It finishes with a clean, floral lift and a persistent touch of savory minerals.
