Descorchados
Review Date: 01/2025This is the entry wine into the world of sauvignon blanc from Matetic, in El Rosario, on the slopes of the Coasta Mountains. This is a blend of sauvignon clones that offers an overview—a panoramic view of the sea, if you prefer—and its influence in an herbal and refreshing light white dominated by mouth-watering acidity.

Notes
Matetic Vineyards is a family-owned Chilean winery founded in 1999 by the Matetic family, descendants of Jorge Matetic Celtinja, whose legacy dates back to 1892 when the family first arrived in southern Chile. Located in the Rosario Valley, a cool-climate subregion nestled between the Casablanca and San Antonio valleys, the estate was established with the goal of exploring coastal terroir and producing wines influenced by the nearby Pacific Ocean. From its inception, Matetic became a pioneer in Chile for cool-climate varieties and for its early adoption of organic farming in 2002, later advancing to fully biodynamic certified in 2013. The Corralillo Sauvignon Blanc is part of a range named after a historic cellar once used in the Rosario Valley, reflecting the winery’s intention to honor local winemaking traditions while working with modern techniques. Rather than focusing purely on flavor, the wine is significant as an expression of Matetic’s coastal vineyard sites, where granitic soils and strong ocean influence shape development. The fruit is sourced from the San Antonio Valley, an area known for its cool temperatures, morning fog, and long growing season, all of which help preserve natural acidity and structure.
