Review Date: 01/2026Sitting on Vergisson and facing south, this sees sun from morning until night. Julien says that this often gives the wine a fruit confit nose, and there are delicious suggestions of "pâte de fruit". Apricot, nectarine and Rainier cherries abound. Chewy, glossy and concentrated, this is succulent yet elegant. Zippy acidity pulls the abundant energy into a steady, persistent finish.

A clean gleaming mid yellow. There is a gentler aromatic quality here, more white fruit, really quite complex on the palate with classic white orchard fruit quiet enjoying the attention of the sunshine, yet it stretches out to a very classical Vergisson finish. Drink from 2028-2035. Tasted Jun 2025.

There is a suggestion of the exotic to the aromas of white and yellow peach, passion fruit and honeysuckle along with more subtle wood influence. There is excellent richness and solid volume to the intense, stony and utterly delicious medium weight flavors where the lengthy finish is an appealing combination of finesse and power. Good stuff.

The 2023 Pouilly-Fuissé La Maréchaude 1er Cru comes from a sunny meso-climate but has a tendency to take longer to ripen. It has fine complexity on the nose, a mixture of white and yellow fruit, crushed stone, fern and a very slight menthol note. The palate is well balanced with a slightly honeyed texture, just the right amount of bitterness that keeps you coming back for more. Perhaps it does not have the comeliness of other Pouilly-Fuissé, and I agree with Frédéric Burrier that it is almost Sauvignon Blanc-like on the finish.(NM)
