Polished and well structured, this vibrant, savory red hits all the high notes. It opens with enticing scents of red cherry, pressed rose, ground clove and a balsamic whiff of menthol that follow over to the chiseled palate along with crushed cranberry and licorice. Firm but refined tannins and fresh acidity lend impeccable balance and finesse. (KO)

Germano's 2013 Barolo Prapò is an ample, broad-shouldered Barolo with plenty of Serralunga power and grip. Sweet red cherry, plum, menthol and licorice flesh out in the glass. Even with all of its obvious intensity, the 2013 has a good bit of aromatic lift that adds brightness. The 2013 spent around 45 days on the skins and was aged in medium-sized casks. (AG)

Lustrous mid ruby. Focused, fine red fruit nose with the merest suggestion of oak. Hints of marzipan that I associate with Serralunga. Lots of depth. Maraschino cherry fruit. Intense red fruit on the palate and with a muscular firm structure following the fruit all the way. Vivid acidity turning up on the finish. Really youthful and fine and firm at the same time. Mouth-filling, never-ending tannins. For the long haul. 17.5/20 points (WS)

This is for the serious cellar. 2013 was a classic, long-season vintage, and Prapò is Sergio’s "Grand Cru" site. This wine is chiseled and savory, offering a complex mix of crushed cranberry, balsamic, and ground clove. It is vibrant, nervous, and built for the long haul. If you want to know what "savory" Barolo is all about, this is your bottle.
