2023 Château de Beauregard Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "Vers Cras"

Review Date: 01/2026This is made with all of the vines surrounding the château on the plateau above Fuissé. The terroir is decidedly calcareous, but with the exposition here, there is suppleness, too. Tangerine, straw and beach breezes give this real intrigue on the nose. There are some lightly dusty tannins on the rounded, palate-coating finish.

From both sides, the cooler Pouilly with a bit more clay, and the warmer limestone aspect of Fuissé. An even lemon yellow. The vintage has given a fractionally riper flavour profile to the nose than in the past, with honeysuckle on the palate and then the clean refreshing limestone saline finish. But just taken a fraction out of character this year. Frédéric wonders if they might have picked this earlier. Still a very good wine. Drink from 2028-2033. Tasted Jun 2025.

The 2023 Pouilly-Fuissé Vers Cras 1er Cru comes from limestone soils. It has a more weighty, dense nose than the Les Reisses although for me it does not quite deliver the same complexity and mineralité by direct comparison. The palate is well balanced with citrus-lemon and orange rind on the entry, the mineralité coming through towards the sorbet-fresh finish. Very fine.(NM)
