The 2024 Montrachet Grand Cru comes from 75-year-old vines and comprises just one barrel this year. It has a very intense bouquet with citrus fruit, sea cave and oyster shell aromas, and just a very faint hint of praline. The palate is divine (like last year). Pure citrus fruit commingles with mango and wild peach. Quite an exquisite thread of acidity keeps this tensile from start to finish, fanning out like a Monty should. Yes, I did force myself to swallow a mouthful.(NM)

Note: from a .06 ha parcel of 75+ year old vines on the Chassagne side; only 210 liters produced and raised in 50% new wood. This requires aggressive swirling to liberate the spicy aromas of white orchard fruit, petrol, lemon rind and a plethora of floral elements. There is even more volume and power to the equally muscular broad-shouldered flavors that exhibit simply massive length on the palate staining finish. This is a big but balanced Montrachet that is just so classy. There won't be much of this monument in the making but if you do find it, don't hesitate as it's superb.*Burghound Don't Miss!*

One barrel made. Not quite clear at the moment. The nose suggests excellent concentration, with a touch of vanilla to be sure but it is all in balance. It may not be quite right to say undemonstrative on the palate, but it takes time for the fruit to display. Agrumes, ripe apples, a thought of a peach but barely there, pretty good length. While not yet quite displaying the full Montrachet, I suspect that this will get there with considerably more time. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted Oct 2025.

Derived from a 0.1-hectare site planted in 1950, only 200 liters of the 2024 Montrachet Grand Cru were produced, with limestone from the Montrachet vineyard used to fill the barrel. Despite the challenges of vinifying such a small volume, the wine—attaining 12.2% alcohol—has turned out beautifully, articulating aromas of lemon confit, peach, pear and freshly baked bread, mingled with a faint hint of sage, followed by a full-bodied, concentrated, ample and layered palate with an elegantly muscular core and a textural attack, underpinned by fine tension, before concluding in a long, persistent finish. It is a considerable success in what has been one of the most challenging vintages of the last 20 years.(WK)
