Based on 61% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Sirah and aged 11 months in 72% new French oak, the 2023 The Tempest was bottled in January 2025. It offers beautifully textured and upfront black cherries, chocolaty herbs, tobacco, and gravelly earth. Medium to full-bodied, it has integrated acidity, sweet tannins, and a great finish. This pure, layered Merlot has tons to love and will evolve for two decades. Drink 2025-2045.

The Wine Palate
The 2023 The Tempest is a blend of 61% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Petite Sirah. Deep garnet-purple colored, it sails out of the glass with energetic notes of wild blueberries and black raspberries, giving way to an undercurrent of lavender, dark chocolate, cedar chest, and star anise. The full-bodied palate delivers nice bright black and blue fruit layers with lots of spicy sparks and a velvety texture, finishing long and satisfyingly opulent.

The Tempest is Realm Cellars' Merlot-led Bordeaux blend, part of a lineup built around both single-vineyard Cabernet bottlings and proprietary Napa Valley blends. The 2023 season in Napa was notably long and even-paced, giving producers extended hang time after a cool, wet winter.
