Vinous

Review Date: 11/2023

The 2022 Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes Grand Cru is one of my favorite aromatics from Rousseau, one you instantly fall in love with - real frisson, red berry fruit laced with shucked oyster shell. The palate is very well-balanced, framed by filigree tannins. There is real tension from start to finish, as you expect from this vineyard, finishing with immense precision. Fabulous wine.(NM)

Decanter

Powerful and aromatic, the Clos des Ruchottes is always a particular favourite of those who love tension and concentration. The 2022 shows a forward black fruit aroma with a floral edge and plenty of saline mineral concentration, but it is tightly wound and packed with potential. This is among the best Ruchottes of the vintage: silky and very fine but impressively dense, with immense length and great complexity. This wine will take at least five years to come around but should last for decades.(CC)

One of the two most oak-forward wines at this point, along with Chambertin, this comes forward with cocoa powder, toast and lots of brown spices. The wine quicky unfurls in the glass with underbrush, sea salt and some seemingly reluctant blackberries. The components feel a bit distinct at the moment, but the puzzle is very clearly coming together. Be patient.

Burghound

Note: 1.06 ha; 20% new wood. Here too there is just enough to notice setting off the cooler, airier and more elegant nose of essence of wild red currant truffle and wet stone. The super-sleek and almost painfully intense, and intensely mineral-driven, tautly muscular flavors display focused power on the more obviously austere, focused and hugely long finale. This beautifully balanced effort should amply repay extended keeping.*Burghound Don't Miss!*

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "I confide in Cyrielle that this is usually my favourite wine at the domaine ‘It’s my favourite too – it’s where my roots are!’So elegant – and again, incisive, pure – such purity and clarity of fruit – one of my all-time favourite wines and this won’t change my mind. A small finishing explosion of beautiful red fruit – yes!"(01/2024)
