The 2014 Proprietary Red Blend Unrestrained Reserve is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc. As its title suggests, this is a big, juicy, exuberant style of wine, but still civilized, with ripe, well-integrated tannin, wood and alcohol. All of these O’Brien wines tend to be around 15.2%, so they are not short-changing the consumer on power. This big, dense purple wine displays oodles of floral notes intermixed with blue and black fruits, some background toast, a touch of graphite, and a dramatic and flamboyant mouthfeel. Nevertheless, there’s a sense that it is still young and will be even better with 3-4 years of bottle age. It should keep for 20 or more years. (RP)
