Reviewed January 2026The 2025 Cuvée-Syrah, tasted from tank just prior to bottling, is packed with inky dark fruit, lavender, menthol, licorice, chocolate, spice and a good deal of whole-cluster savoriness. Boisterous and juicy, the 2025 is a total delight. A whole range of floral and spice notes punctuate the finish. The 2025 was done with 100% stems and was aged mostly in neutral 500-liter barrels. It is an astonishingly good wine made in a style meant to be very friendly in terms of both approachability and price. (AG)

The nose on this new release is very, very pretty and full of violet pastille and boysenberry scents. On the palate, red cassis, with upper palate chalk and light minerals. It's really just a lovely wine at a pretty exceptional price. I would like to see where it goes in a couple of years. I had wonderful experiences with their vineyard designated Syrah's starting from the mid-1990's. They would age for decades!

An incredible new wine from Pax Mahle. Taking everything we've come to know and love about Pax Syrah but bringing it to the table in the most affordable form yet! Declassified from his single vineyard bottlings but made using the same artisanal methods. Lots of whole-cluster, neutral oak, and short elevage.
