The 2023 Marsannay Clos du Roy had been racked one month before my visit and will continue aging in larger 600-liter barrels. This is understated, very poised and focused on the nose that unfolds succinctly in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, satisfying weight and a focused, quite structured finish. Maybe it doesn't quite have the ambition of the previous vintage, yet this is still a top-notch Marsannay.(NM)

Dark purple with ruby rim. Still very backward, with the typical backbone of this vineyard, medium plus density. A feeling of classic Côte de Nuits, currently at a backward stage – this wine and those following have been racked from barrel to barrel but not assembled. Drink from 2028-2032. Tasted Dec 2024.

n appealingly floral-infused nose more freely reveals its aromas of poached plum, black raspberry and discreet earth character. The vibrant and well-detailed flavors are not especially dense but they're quite fine and tautly muscular while flashing both focused power and ample minerality on the firm, youthfully austere and built-to-age finale.
