Astonishing purity and youthful freshness, the white-peach, Asian-pear and candied Amalfi-lemon aromas incredibly vivid. Super-focused, medium-bodied palate with staggering vitality and energy. This is very concentrated, but the refreshing acidity makes it feel so light on its feet. Then comes the diamond-bright minerality at the finish. Surely the best white wine from this producer to date!

Las Pizarras began production thanks to the 2014 vintage and immediately underscored the potential of the vineyards in Aconcagua Costa. This version, like all those that came before it, comes from three parcels rich in slate soils, about 11 kilometers from the sea, on the western side of the Aconcagua Valley. 100% of the wine was aged in 400-liter barrels, 20% of them new oak. This is a very good version, always focused on the acidity and the herbal and citrus flavors caused by the cold influence of the sea. But in this case—perhaps unlike the 2021 vintage—the wine seems more present on the palate. It's broader, more succulent, and it occupies more of the mouth. A dense wine, delicious in its juiciness, one of the great Chilean whites.

Now established among the best Chardonnays in the southern hemisphere, Las Pizarras is a wine that rewards patience. Taut, chiselled and restrained, with abundant minerality, flinty, wet stone intensity, a hint of kelp, some cream from 40% malolactic and a steely citrus core.

A superb Chardonay from Chile, combines a rich texture with a tight stone fruit core, juicy white peach and pear set against sage spice, gunsmoke and white flower aromatics, love it. Natural yeast fermentation, aged in French oak barrels. Brilliant stuff from owner Eduardo Chadwick and winemaker Tomas Munoz.

Notes

Made by famed winery Viña Errázuriz, the Las Pizarras wines are a compelling expression of Chile’s cool-coast viticulture. Grown in the Aconcagua Costa region, the vineyards sit less than 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean and rest on a high proportion of metamorphic slate soils—“pizarras” in Spanish—giving the wines a mineral backbone and finely etched structure.
